Description:
The Hamiltonstovare is Sweden’s national dog, developed as a reliable hunting hound with excellent scenting ability and stamina. It is a tricolour breed, similar in appearance to a foxhound, but slightly smaller and more refined. Calm and affectionate at home, yet driven and focused outdoors, it thrives with experienced owners who can offer it space, purpose, and structure.

Best Suited For:

  • Active families or individuals with rural or semi-rural homes
  • Owners interested in scent work, long walks, or outdoor pursuits
  • Households looking for a calm, loyal companion with a working heritage

Less Suitable For:

  • Urban flats or homes without secure outdoor space
  • Sedentary lifestyles
  • Owners seeking a highly obedient, always-off-lead dog (scent drive can override recall)
